Evans Auto Sales – Timeline
1992 – Tim Evans is born.
Early 2000s (Age 8-12) – Always entrepreneurial, Tim starts his first small businesses, including a vending business, raising rabbits to sell, running a mobile funnel cake business, and a lawn care company.
2006 (Age 14) – Tim decides to pursue his love of music by launching a mobile DJ business. He works tirelessly to grow it into a well-known local service.
2010 (Age 18) – Graduates high school just as technology begins transforming industries. With MP3 players and streaming services making music more accessible, Tim realizes the DJ business is becoming less profitable. He enrolls in a local technical college but decides after one semester that college isn't the right path for him.
2011 (Age 19) – Takes a job at an industrial sales company, where he gains valuable experience in product knowledge, customer service, and business operations. Meanwhile, he searches for a full-sized truck to replace his Chevy S10 but struggles to find one within his budget. A chance conversation with a former DJ customer leads him to an insurance auction, where he purchases and rebuilds his first vehicle.
2012 (Age 20) – After successfully repairing and driving the truck for over a year, Tim sells it for a significant profit. Realizing the potential in rebuilding salvage vehicles, he begins purchasing and restoring more cars. The process comes with challenges—mistakes, financial risks, and lessons learned—but he refines his skills and builds his knowledge of the industry.
January 2013 (Age 20) – After a year of experience in vehicle restoration, Tim officially establishes Evans Auto Sales, completing all licensing requirements to become a legal dealer. The first office is a 96-square-foot shed with no facilities for customers or himself. The startup phase is grueling, with 70-hour workweeks and costly mistakes, but Tim perseveres.
Late 2013 (Age 21) – Tim realizes he's losing potential customers due to two major limitations: his dealership's small location and the lack of financing options. Determined to grow, he partners with reputable lenders to offer financing, making vehicles more accessible to buyers.
2014-2020 – Evans Auto Sales steadily grows, expanding its inventory, customer base, and operational efficiency. Tim refines business processes, develops policies, and builds a loyal clientele.
The Expansion Era (2021-Present)
Summer 2021 – Tim attends a car dealer conference and participates in a hot seat session, where mentors analyze his business struggles. This experience is a wake-up call, pushing him to take intentional steps to grow the dealership. He begins hiring aggressively and expanding operations.
2021-2022 – The first year of rapid expansion comes with costly mistakes and bad hires. Tim faces new challenges in managing a team and scaling operations.
Summer 2022 – At the next year's conference, Tim reconnects with mentors in a follow-up session. They review his progress, refine growth strategies, and develop stronger hiring and operational processes. At this point, Evans Auto Sales has just three employees.
2022-2023 – Armed with new insights, Tim doubles down on team development, structured processes, and operational efficiency.
2023-Present – Evans Auto Sales expands to two locations, adding a full auto spa and mechanic shop. The team grows from 3 employees to 18 within two years. Tim shifts his focus from daily operations to strategic growth, relying on his executive team to handle the dealership’s day-to-day functions. However, this is just the beginning—big plans are in the works to transform Evans Auto Sales into something even greater, redefining what an automotive experience can be.
